A REAL ID is a state ID that will be required to board an aircraft as of October 1, 2020 and fly domestically. Don't delay as the congestion that typically occurs at DMVs around the country will only get worse, likely much worse, as the deadline approaches and the number of travelers lacking both passports and Real IDs is great.
Here's what you need when you go to the Virginia DMV to get your REAL ID Driver's License.
1. A birth certificate or unexpired passport
2. Your social security card or a W-2 form that has your social-security number on it.
3. Proof of your Virginia residency such as:
An existing VA driver's license
A voter ID
A utility bill that has your address on it
Mortgage or leasing agreement
An important note for #3 above is that it must list a PHYSICAL ADDRESS.
If you plan to fly domestically after the deadline - or enter a federal building and you don't have a passport -
don't delay get your REAL ID!
