Celebrity Cruises Adding South Carolina Departures

The South Carolina State Ports Authority announced Celebrity Cruises will offer Caribbean cruises from the Port of Charleston beginning next year, the Associated Press reported.
Starting in February, the line will offer a series of six 10- and 11-night cruises from Charleston aboard the Celebrity Mercury. Then in March of 2011, the cruise line will add five additional cruises to the Caribbean from Charleston.

According to the AP news article, Celebrity Cruises CEO Dan Hanrahan said that the line added the Charleston departures in response to requests from both travel agents and consumers for more East Coast cruising options.

Celebrity Cruises has made calls to Charleston, but not for several years.
